To become Russian citizens, natives of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Ukraine now need only a residence permit. This suggests amendments to the law “On citizenship of the Russian Federation” that enter into force on 24 July.

Another long-awaited innovation: when making the citizenship of the Russian Federation in General procedure and in simplified renunciation of foreign citizenship is no longer required. This applies, in particular, native speakers of Russian.

A simplified mechanism involves the abolition of two requirements: to confirm legitimate source of income and reside in Russia on a residence permit for five years. That is, a residence permit is needed, but stays on it can be any at least one day.

To use the “simplified tax system” from now on, can all adult foreigners who have at least one parent-RF citizen, living in Russia. Also, this option is provided to stateless persons who previously had Soviet citizenship and lived in post-Soviet countries.

There are new requirements for foreigners to receive citizenship in a simplified procedure on the basis of marriage to a citizen of Russia — now that spouse have to reside on the territory of Russia. As before, at the time of submission of the application need to be married for at least three years. The duration of the marriage relationship is not important, if the husband and wife have common children, follows from amendments.

Faster can get a Russian passport graduates of national universities: now they only need to work in Russia on a speciality not less than one year (previously three years).
