Finnish newspaper has justified the creation of concentration camps in Karelia

LAAKKONEN believes that camp internees were not created to kill people. They were created out of “fear that the Russian population to start guerrilla activity and sabotage,” said the reporter.

He also said that the decree could not collect the Finnish population in internment camps, was released in July 1941, that is before the occupation of Karelia.

After verification they will be given corresponding legal assessment.

In 1941-1944, the Finns have built 14 concentration camps in the occupied Karelian-Finnish SSR. In the spring of 1942 there were 24 thousand prisoners, accounting for 30 percent of the population.
