We’re all in the same boat – and this will vary just due. The research world is no different than many of you. The students work almost exclusively from home, the professors hold their Lectures over the Internet, and to make all of this work, our computer scientists are working Overtime.

I myself am currently working mostly from home. My wife, the kids and I will not leave us with a lot of ideas, so that the ceiling falls on the head. In the universities, the lecture halls are empty and the offices deserted. But there are exceptions. In the laboratories where solutions for the Corona-crisis research, the Work is in full swing.

This is a crisis we can solve only by working together, and so also in the case of the researchers closely collaborated than ever. They work together to quickly ready-to-use, reusable masks. They are researching quickly producible Corona-Tests, and collect all the existing Knowledge, to be able to the Virus to better contain it.

The Best thing that could happen to us would be, of course, to find drugs or even a vaccine. And, fortunately, the research does not start at zero. We have experience of diseases such as Sars, Mers, Ebola, or HIV. We may be able to modify drugs that may not work in these, so that they can bring success against the new Coronavirus.

In the meantime, help wash hands, and distance to other people to keep, in order to minimize the risk of Infection. Exciting additional tips I read last week on the Website of the ETH Zurich. They are derived from Viola Vogel, ETH-Professor for biomechanics.

most of us imagine a infections such as “Fangis”: anyone Who comes in contact with the Virus, the “hats”. But that is not So. What matters is how many viruses attack us at the same time, and whether they can gain a foothold. And we can certainly influence.

When an Infected person near me coughs, the Virus is by Inhalation first, in the nose, mouth, and throat. So it can reproduce there, but it can infect a mucous membrane of a cell and not able to do not always!

Our mucous membranes clean from self. Their walls consist of tiny hairs, which are covered by a thin layer of mucus. The cilia move and create the mucus and deposited particles (for example, viruses) from our respiratory tract. The mucus, however, is a tough one, device this conveyor belt to a Halt.

so What can you do? Keep your mucous membranes supple! You drink tea, inhale it, gargle salt water, and you don’t catch a cold. And if you are a smoker: smoke less. All of this lowers the chances that the Virus to be a success. Summarized: If you look good to yourself, helps you to against the Virus.

And please: Stay home, wash the hands and keep distance. Together we can get through!

Coronavirus

The Coronavirus currently holds the world in suspense. Many countries are taking measures such as Closing schools or limiting public events, to prevent the spread. In Switzerland, too, the grass, the Virus magnetized. All of the current information and Figures around the topic there is in the Coronavirus-Ticker.

The Coronavirus spreads further – also in Switzerland. Especially in the flu season, you can assess for yourself whether one is ill with the Coronavirus, or whether you just have an ordinary flu. The differences are subtle, but they exist. VIEWS is defined.
