The milk price at Aldi breaks a high hurdle: from now on, a liter of fresh whole milk costs more than one euro. Organic milk is also becoming much more expensive. The reason is the increased producer prices. And Aldi’s competitors should soon follow suit.

At the beginning of the month, Aldi increased the prices for dairy products significantly. The jump in prices is particularly noticeable for milk, as a report in the “Lebensmittelzeitung” shows. The following significant price increases have been recorded:

According to the “Lebensmittelzeitung”, there will also be price increases for quark, crème fraiche, coffee cream, sour cream and buttermilk. The same goes for ice cream.

It usually only takes one to three days for Aldi’s competitors to raise their prices in response.

The particularly strong price increase for organic milk can be explained by significantly higher producer prices. As the “Lebensmittelzeitung” writes, the market leader Schwarzwaldmilch, for example, raised the price for organic milk from 50.5 cents/kg to 60.0 cents/kg. Normal whole milk and low-fat milk went up from 36.0 cents/kg to 50.0 cents/kg.
