“the Artist and the city” – the project of the Memorial Museum-workshop of Zaire Azgur in Minsk. Exhibition place is chosen not casually: the monument to Yakub Kolas and his literary heroes created by this prominent Soviet sculptor. Over the summer, the art-open-air have time to visit about two million people. The project tends to the technical innovations and creative innovative solutions – right on the square, film screenings and even quiet concerts where the musicians perform live and the audience listening to them in special headphones. Pandemic coronavirus prompted the authors ideas on care in virtual reality: walk through the center of Minsk and to join the works of modern Belarusian artists on a specially created website higminsk.by.

the Idea of organizing the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of UNOVIS, and a collaboration with the Vitebsk center of contemporary art – historically justified, and long overdue step, – says the Director of the Museum-workshop of Zaire Azgur Oksana Bogdanova. – Yes, Zaire Azgur not belonged to the bloc of the left radical avant-garde art. But he was born in the Vitebsk province and its creative biography has been connected with the phenomenon of the Vitebsk art school. In 1921-1922 he studied at the school of drawing and painting from Yudel pen, through the workshop of which at the time were Marc Chagall, Ossip Zadkine, and in 1922-1923-m – in the State of the art-practical Institute (reorganized Vitebsk people’s art school, open Marc Chagall).

In the project “Artist and the city” used 32 16 Vitebsk artists – in particular, representatives of the Association “Square”, consider themselves the heirs of Kazimir Malevich and revolutionary Suprematism: Alexander Maley – founder of the Association, Nicholas Dondina, Victor Shilko, Alexander Dosuzhev, Alexandra Slepova and Valeria Chukin.
