Screened at the Cannes Film Festival last May where it was very well received by critics, Simple comme Sylvain will be released in theaters on September 22. A first trailer for this third feature film by Monia Chokri was unveiled on Thursday.

The footage shows the beginning of a romance between a philosophy professor (Magalie Lépine-Blondeau) and a construction contractor (Pierre-Yves Cardinal) whom she has hired to renovate her cottage.

“I wanted to see what happens when two beings from backgrounds that have nothing to do with each other suddenly love each other disproportionately,” explained Monia Chokri, in an interview with La Presse on last spring.

In addition to having been selected in the prestigious Un certain regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, Simple comme Sylvain was presented at the Cabourg Film Festival, where it won two prizes, as well as at the La Rochelle Festival. It will also be screened at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival at the end of the month.

The feature film from the director of My Brother’s Wife and Babysitter also stars Francis-William Rhéaume, Steve Laplante, Marie-Ginette Guay, Micheline Lanctôt, Christine Beaulieu, Mathieu Baron, Linda Sorgini, Guy Thauvette, Guillaume Laurin and Karelle Tremblay.
