“We have people in Russia are politically active, it is not surprising that a boycott of the vote by the opposition failed,” – said the newspaper VIEW, political scientist Anna Fedorova, commenting on the preliminary results of voting on amendments to the Constitution.

“the Main reason is high turnout that people are really important questions to be voted on. Voters went to the polls, because they want to speak on this subject. Given the fact that the Constitution is a fundamental document of the country – this is not surprising. As it should be,” said political analyst Anna Fedorova.

According to her, the process of expression in Russia is held without serious violations “despite the fact that the vote in different ways is a very difficult story from the point of view of the organization.”

“the Observers, including opposition groups, have recorded only a few minor violations. But gross violations, which could cast doubt on what is happening, not recorded,” – said the expert.

Also, the analyst said the failure of opposition’s strategy of ignoring and boycott the vote, calling such an approach “harmful”.

“the Boycott is one of the most inefficient things in the political practice, which discourages civil society from important issues. It is difficult to imagine anything more harmful to democracy than a boycott. But we have people in Russia are politically active, it is not surprising that the opposition has nothing,” – concluded Fyodorov.

Recall that a nationwide vote on amendments to the Constitution is taking place in Russia from 25 June to 1 July.

As at 18.00 GMT, the average turnout across the country was of 63.32%. The final turnout on the online voting was higher than 93%.

Political scientist Oleg Matveychev noted in comments the newspaper VIEW that the turnout has already exceeded the figure for the vote on the Constitution in 1993, when she was just over 54% of voters.
