Lovers of the Star Wars saga thought it was lost forever. Now, the model of the X-Wing ship, which appears in the final scene of the initial 1977 film, will be put up for auction. Sale starting price: US$400,000 ($542,000).

The model of the space fighter, measuring 50 cm, was found in the personal collection of Greig Jein, a special effects designer who died in 2022. The latter won two Oscars during his prolific career, either for the films 1941 and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Several treasures from this collection will be auctioned October 14-15 in Dallas, including an original Stormtrooper costume from the 1977 film, an astronaut suit from 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Trek props.

The nugget of this collection, however, remains the X-Wing ship, with a particularly neat aesthetic, since it was used for numerous close-ups in the film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
