Her death was ruled accidental overdose. A few years later, it was re-classified to a homicide.

A Michigan man was convicted for killing his wife by intoxicating her cereal with heroin. He was sentenced to a life term on Friday.

Jason Harris, 60 miles north from Detroit, was found guilty of first degree murder in the 2014 killing of Christina Ann Thompson Harris.

MLive.com reported that Judge David Newblatt of Genesee County Circuit Court said, “I completely agree with their verdict.” You are guilty. This is what you did. You are a murderer. You are a lying liar. Let me be very clear about this. Your lies were exposed by the jury, and mine are revealed by me.”

Investigators say Harris attempted to hire a hitman for his wife’s murder but decided to spike her cereal instead. Harris allegedly committed the crime on the night she died.

Police were informed by a neighbor that Christina Harris fell asleep on the living-room floor after she had finished eating the poisoned cereal.

Although the initial death was ruled accidental overdose by a medical examiner, investigators suspect that she was actually murdered. Police were also informed by her family that she had never used drugs.

The news outlet reported that a sample of Christina Harris’ breast milk taken before her death revealed no drug residues. This indicates that she wasn’t a drug user prior to her overdose. In August 2019, the cause of death was reclassified to homicide.

Jason Harris received a $120,000 life insurance policy benefit when his wife died. Soon after, a woman moved in to his home. A thorough investigation revealed that he had been sending text messages to a woman prior to his wife’s death.
