In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the great Patriotic war, five residents of Sochi have raised a red flag on the mountain Achishkho the altitude of 2391 meters above sea level. The race was led by master of sports in mountaineering, a multiple medalist at skyrunning and world record-holder for the ascent of Elbrus Oksana Stefanishina. This was reported in the city administration of Sochi.
the Route of athletes ran from Hmelevskij lakes and took a total of a little over four hours. On top of Achishkho, the group hoisted a copy of the assault flag of idritskaya infantry division which was raised on 1 may 1945 over the Reichstag building by red Army soldiers.
We raised the red flag on one of the highest peaks in Sochi, to honor the memory of those who fought hard in the rear and in all possible ways has brought Great Victory. We overcame the fords of the rivers, difficult descents and ascents to simply say “thank you” to our grandfathers and great-grandfathers – soldiers, officers, doctors Sochi military hospitals and ordinary people who have had to go through all the horrors of that terrible time, – said the participant of the race, Deputy Director of the Department of physical culture and sports of administration of Sochi Igor Prin.
Way
during the war Sochi has become the largest hospital base in the South of Russia. From 1941 to 1945, the volunteers went to the front over 18 thousand local residents, more than 4.5 thousand of them died. The soldiers did not let the enemy in the village of Krasnaya Polyana, the line of defence was held in the district passes Aisha and Pseashkho, where there were fierce battles for the Caucasus.
