A father from NRW lost his driver’s license. The reason is excessive speed. The special thing about the story: The 32-year-old drove his unconscious daughter to a clinic and was even escorted by the police.
A father from North Rhine-Westphalia was sentenced to a fine of 348.50 euros and a one-month driving ban for excessive speed. He appealed. Because: He was flashed on the way to a clinic. His young daughter had suffered a medical emergency. And plainclothes police officers who stopped him, but then recognized the emergency, even escorted him to the clinic with blue lights flashing. The “Bild am Sonntag” reports on the case.
“I have lodged an objection. I thought that was the end of it. We had police officers as witnesses,” said the father of the newspaper. But the case ended up before the district court of Siegen. There the fine was reduced to 260 euros, but the verdict was still “guilty”. The justification: The danger could have been averted by “using the rescue service”. Driving too fast was not a “suitable means”.
The family man is disappointed: “I’m not a racer, it was a matter of life or death. Any father can understand that.” He hired a lawyer. He also sees a “justifying reason”. Because both the father and the police assumed it was an emergency. He lodged a complaint. Now the Higher Regional Court has to decide.
According to “Express”, the judge at the Siegen district court had said in support of his verdict: “He should have called an ambulance, we have a functioning system in Germany.” The family man should have driven to the clinic within the speed limit or looked for a person, who could have called the ambulance for him.
By the way: the two-year-old daughter is doing well. She had suffered a febrile seizure and had to stay in the hospital for two days. But now she is well again.
