Alright, so here’s the deal. People who are totally into supporting abortion rights decided to throw down some protests outside the Missouri Senate chamber. This all went down after the Senate got together and voted to back a referendum that would basically cancel out an abortion-rights amendment. The date? May 14, 2025, in Jefferson City, Mo. Now, fast forward a bit to May 1, 2025. We’ve got the Midwest March for Life crew strolling past the Missouri Capitol in Jefferson City. And of course, there’s a snazzy pic of all the action (AP Photo/David A. Lieb). The marchers didn’t just stop at the Capitol, though. Nope, they kept it moving through the streets of Jefferson City, with that iconic state Capitol building in the background (AP Photo/David A. Lieb).
So, after all that back and forth, the Republican state lawmakers in Missouri decided they weren’t quite feeling the whole abortion-rights vibe that the voters were digging. They went ahead and approved a new referendum to repeal the abortion-rights amendment and instead go for a ban on most abortions. Sounds like things are getting pretty heated in the Show-Me State, huh?
Now, I’m not really sure why this matters, but the Senate did some fancy footwork to shut down the opposing Democrats and push through the new amendment by a vote of 21-11. Oh, and there were some chants of “Stop the ban!” as the protestors got the boot from the Senate chamber. Talk about drama. And just like that, the Senate wrapped things up for the year, ending their session a couple of days ahead of schedule. But don’t worry, the Democrats are already plotting their revenge for next year. Get ready for some serious Senate showdowns, folks.
