So, like, Senator John Cornyn is totally gearing up for a serious primary challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. This week, he announced his campaign leadership team for the 2026 reelection bid, and it’s pretty stacked with some big Republican names. I mean, we’re talking about folks who have worked with Gov. Greg Abbott and even President Donald Trump.
It’s kind of an insider thing, but the fact that Cornyn is rolling out such a powerhouse team with seasoned campaign pros is raising some eyebrows. According to Jasper Scherer, a politics reporter with The Texas Tribune, Cornyn hired Tony Fabrizio, who was Trump’s main pollster for both of his winning presidential campaigns. Plus, he brought on some other peeps who are connected to the Trump world.
Paxton has always been tight with Trump and likes to position himself as the anti-establishment guy, especially when it comes to fellow Republicans like Cornyn. The big question here is whether Trump will endorse someone in this race, and that could seriously shake things up. So, it seems like Cornyn is not messing around and is trying to show his loyalty to Trump and the conservative base.
