The incident kicked off around 9 a.m. near the 4400 block of State Highway 360, where a caller done reported a man across from a residential neighborhood. Wrapping up a four-hour SWAT standoff in Grapevine on Monday, police announced that a man had tragically passed away.
The man in question, 65-year-old Mark Douglas Hummert from Euless, was found in a wooded area near a business, pointing a handgun at his chest when officers arrived on the scene. Despite efforts to engage with Hummert and negotiate with him, the situation escalated. The Northeast Tarrant County Area SWAT Team was called in for assistance, but after almost four hours of attempting to reason with the man, they resorted to deploying less-lethal gas in an attempt to disarm him. Unfortunately, Hummert ultimately chose to take his own life, leading to his passing at the hospital.
