Mega disruption on WhatsApp! Nothing worked for around two hours, and over 200,000 users reported problems. Now the all clear has been given – the number of reported faults is declining, the messenger is running again for many users.

There is currently a problem with the messenger service WhatsApp. According to the “alle disturbances.de” page, there have been problems using the app since shortly before 9 a.m. It does not work in either the mobile or web versions, sending and receiving messages is not possible. According to Twitter, there also seem to be disruptions abroad.

Over 200,000 users in Germany are currently unable to use the application. The number of app users who cannot use WhatsApp is increasing almost every minute. At 9:03 a.m., around 8,100 people reported a fault, at 9:18 a.m. there were already more than 100,000. By 9:40 a.m., more than 150,000 people were reporting problems. The background is still unclear.

The reason for the disruption was initially unknown. The service, which belongs to the Facebook group Meta, has not yet commented on the failure. Meta itself also gave no comment for the time being. Since 10:05 a.m., the number of reported problems has decreased slightly, but remains at a high level. By 10:25 it had halved. At 10.50 a.m. there were still around 27,000 reports.
