The Russian foreign Ministry denied the U.S. the right of appropriation of outer space and the moon

“it is not clear by what right the US administration is only trying to take a leading role in shaping the global agenda on such a sensitive international issue. We proceed from the equality of States in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes,” – said the Russian foreign Ministry.

according to the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the basis of any dialogue on this subject “should become the universally recognized principles and norms of international space law, codified in particular in the outer space Treaty of 27 January 1967, including the principle, according to which outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by whatever way.”

In Moscow, also pointed out the urgent need for the international community to take collective action in order to prevent turning outer space into an arena of international disputes and conflicts.

however, Russia is ready to cooperate and negotiate with partners on the theme of space. “Reaffirm the commitment to a substantive and open discussion of this problem with respect to the applicable principles and norms of international law, including in the framework of the UN and its Committee on the peaceful uses of outer space for peaceful purposes, as well as Russia’s commitment to the broadest possible international cooperation – in both scientific and legal aspects of the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.
