Black-green is considered the most likely option for the next state government. It would be the first alliance of both parties in NRW. Mathematically, a coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP would also be possible.
However, it is only considered a second choice in the event that the two election winners, CDU and Greens, do not come to a common result. Until then, the electoral loser FDP is not available for formal consultations with delegations from other parties.
On Monday (10:00 a.m.) the election winner, Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU), and SPD state leader Thomas Kutschaty want to meet in a small group in the Düsseldorf state parliament for a working meeting.
According to the preliminary official result, the CDU emerged as the winner of the state election last Sunday with slight increases to 35.7 percent (2017: 33.0). With 26.7 percent, the SPD slipped to its worst result in a state election in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Greens were able to almost triple their share of the vote compared to 2017 to 18.2 percent. The FDP lost more than ever in a state election in North Rhine-Westphalia and only achieved 5.9 percent. The AfD deteriorated by two points to 5.4 percent.
