“The entire Georgia family is devastated by the tragic loss of Devin Willock and Bulldog staffer Chandler LeCroy,” the university said in a statement. “Two other passengers were injured in the accident. They are in stable condition and are being monitored by medical staff.”

“Devin and Chandler were two special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program and our athletic department. We ask everyone to keep their families in your prayers at this very difficult time.”

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart also released a statement mourning the loss of Willock and LeCroy.

“We are all heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy,” Smart said. “Devin was an outstanding young man in every way. He was always smiling, was a great teammate and a pleasure to coach. Chandler was a valued member of our football team and brought incredible attitude and energy to it every day. We mourn this tragic loss with their families and will support them in any way we can.”

Willock was a red-shirt sophomore from New Jersey who started the season as a backup on the offensive line. He’s only started twice this season for the Bulldogs, but he’s played in every game. LeCroy completed her undergraduate degree in Georgia before joining the program as a Recruiting Analyst. She has been with the school since 2016 and has been in the football program for 21 years.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the accident happened around 2:45 a.m. Sunday when the car struck two utility poles and several trees. Police said LeCroy was driven and taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, while Willock died at the scene. The other two occupants, a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, suffered injuries.
