One in five Snapchat users reported that they couldn’t get the photo- and video-sharing site to work. The Downdetector reporting issues began at 08:30 EST. Although it is not clear if Snapchat is the only affected service, it is unlikely considering the recent web-wide failures.

Similar outages were previously caused by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and again, Downdetector has confirmed that AWS is not immune to problems. At the time of writing, however, the AWS Health Dashboard doesn’t report any issues.

Some members of the iMore staff have reported that Snapchat works fine for them, which suggests that this may be a regional problem and not everyone is being affected by what’s happening. However, something is clearly wrong this morning.

We are aware that Snapchatters have issues logging into the app at the moment. Please be patient, we are investigating.

Snapchat is the best iPhone app at what it does. It makes it simple and quick to share disappearing content online. Except for the outages caused by its hosting services, it doesn’t seem to experience too many. It doesn’t matter if it’s AWS or something related to Google or Cloudflare DNS providers, sometimes things can fail without the app or service being affected.

We will be watching to see what happens, but now is a good time to look into the competition if Snapchat doesn’t work. I heard Instagram is very popular these days.
