Addiction to porn affects erectile function, warns an international team of scientists led by experts from the University of Antwerp in Belgium. They talked about it on the urology Annual Congress, which this time was held remotely.
Since about 2007, the availability of pornography began to grow thanks to the Internet. However, information about how the increase in the consumption of pornography can affect erectile function, are not yet sufficient. The authors created an online questionnaire with 118 questions, which was advertised mainly among males in Belgium and Denmark via social networks, posters and leaflets. Answered 3267 men. They reported how often masturbate, how often do you watch porn and how often sex. Special attention researchers have given to men who had sex in the last four weeks is allowed to evaluate the influence of pornography on sexual activity. The questionnaire also included standard questions on erectile function and sexual health.
Interviewed men watched porn for up to 70 minutes a week, for an average of 5-15 minutes. Some are almost not addicted to pornography, others were looking for her almost every day.
However, about 23% of men under the age of 35 years who participated in the survey admitted they have problems during sex with a partner.
“This figure was higher than we expected. We found that was a very significant relationship between time spent watching porn, and increasing problems with erectile function during sex with a partner. Men who watch more porn, also received high scores on a scale of pornography addiction”, says Professor günter de VIN, lead author of the study.
However, stresses de VIN, it was a poll, not a full study, so you should not distribute the results to the entire population. Nevertheless, the work showed a clear link between viewing porn and issue in sexual relations with a partner.
“We found that 90% of men pornographic rewind the video to see the exciting scene. There is no doubt that porn affects the way we treat sex, says de VIN. According to de Wine, demands of men to pornographic content are rising, and sex with a partner just can’t provide them the same level of arousal.

In the future, the researchers plan to more accurately determine what factors cause erectile dysfunction, and find out how porn affects women. Also they emphasize that doctors who treat erectile dysfunction, should ask patients about how often they watch porn.
Previously, psychologists have found that familiarity with pornography at an early age makes men strive for power over women, and later leads to sexual promiscuity.
