Due to the war of aggression in Ukraine, some units of the Russian army have been severely weakened. Instead of mobilizing soldiers in their own country, the Russian troops are now fishing in the occupied territories for able-bodied Ukrainians.

In order to be able to mobilize more soldiers, the Russian authorities in the occupied territories in Ukraine are tightening up the practice of conscripting Ukrainians. This was stated by the spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, to whom the “Institute for the Study of War” refers.

In particular, the 2nd Army Corps, i.e. the armed forces of the so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic”, should be strengthened again in terms of personnel. In the protracted battles for the cities of Sievjerodonetsk and Lyssychansk, the unit had suffered heavy losses, which are now to be compensated.

The Ukrainian Resistance Center also said that the Russian authorities in the southern Ukrainian city of Berdyansk, which was occupied by Russia in the spring, are making concrete preparations for drafting conscripts. In this context, caretakers should submit lists of residents of military age. This practice probably marks the beginning of Russia’s new mobilization strategy, which is intended to expand its own combat capability in the war without having to conscript Russian citizens.

Motuzyanyk predicts that Moscow will probably continue to create conditions for the drafting of Ukrainian conscripts in the occupied territories.

Zelenskyy reiterated that protection against Russian missile attacks also depends on the partner states. Melnyk comments on his controversial statement about the Ukrainian nationalist Stepan Bandera. The controversial registration regulations for Ukrainian conscripts are being relaxed.

Over the weekend, Russian troops achieved one of their alleged war goals and took control of most of the Luhansk region. But Russia’s attacks have changed significantly over the past four and a half months. A chronology of the course of the war.

It is unclear how many prisoners of war there are on the Ukrainian and Russian sides. Last Wednesday, however, the two countries exchanged 144 soldiers as part of a prisoner exchange. Two young Ukrainians now report the torment they had to endure.
