If you want to buy a new or used car, you should first carry out a free type class query. This allows you to quickly find out how much the liability insurance and partial or fully comprehensive insurance will cost – after all, these are not inconsiderable operating costs for every car.
But the type classes are also redefined every year, since they are statistical values. The values for 2023 have now been announced. The result: it will be more expensive for many drivers in the future.
A total of 8.1 million Germans will have to pay more for car insurance from next year because their vehicle has slipped into a more expensive type class. The Nissan Leaf and the Mercedes Benz GLC 250 Coupe 4Matic attracted particular attention because they were upgraded by two classes.
The biggest improvements, however, have made the Skoda Kamiq 1.5 TSI and the Toyota C-HR Hybrid 2.0 and improved three type classes. Owners of these vehicles will therefore save in the future, just like 4.8 million drivers in total.
For the remaining 70 percent of policyholders, everything stays the same. That is around 29.3 million citizens.
