The process between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp is in the final spurt – and it is still about an injury to Depp, which he says his ex-wife inflicted on him. But an expert now says: That can’t be true.
The dispute between actor Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard is in its sixth week – and now revolves around an injury to Depp, in which his finger was almost severed.
Depp testified during the trial that Heard abused him. They had a heated argument when he was shooting the fifth film “Pirates of the Caribbean” in Australia in March 2015. She threw a bottle of vodka that severed the tip of his middle finger on his right hand. Heard denied this and testified in return that Depp sexually assaulted her with a liquor bottle that same night.
An orthopedic surgeon testified in court on Monday (local time) that Depp’s version of events did not match the injury. Richard Moore, who was called to the witness stand by the defense, told the jury he didn’t think Depp’s finger was hurt by a vodka bottle thrown at him. Moore said he came to this opinion because “the medical data is inconclusive — it doesn’t match what we’re seeing in the described injury pattern or in the clinical pictures.”
So the surgeon said if Depp’s hand was flat on a pole and the bottle crushed his finger from above, he would have expected injury to the fingernail and other parts of the finger. However, Moore said the fingernail and nail bed appeared to be intact. As a result, Moore said, Depp’s description of what happened didn’t match the evidence Moore was reviewing – and he saw no broken glass or other cuts or injuries on his hand.
However, on cross-examination, after some back-and-forth, the surgeon said he could not “rule out” that the injury was caused by a vodka bottle.
Depp is suing his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for $50 million for defamation. after Heard published a Washington Post op-ed in 2018 in which she described herself as a victim of domestic violence. Depp, who has denied all abuse allegations, said the comment (which did not identify him by name) ruined his reputation and career. Heard, in turn, sued the actor for $100 million for defamation after his attorney told the media their claims were fabricated.
