(Paris) The Cannes Film Festival announced on Friday the selection of Martin Scorsese’s new film, Killers of the Flower Moon, with its favorite actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro, expected on the steps of the 76th edition.

The film, produced by Apple TV and due to hit theaters in October before going live on the platform, will premiere on May 20. This is the first film confirmed for this 76th edition of the festival (May 16 to 27), the selection of which must be unveiled in mid-April.

Scorsese, an 80-year-old Hollywood director already a legend, Palme d’Or in 1976 with Taxi Driver, had not been selected at Cannes since 1986 and After Hours (Prize for directing).

“Martin Scorsese has dedicated his life to the 7th art and the Cannes Film Festival has accompanied him on many occasions”, underlined the organizers in a press release. He also chaired the Jury in 1998 and awarded the Palme d’Or to Greek director Theo Angelopoulos for Eternity and a Day.

Killers of the Flower Moon dives into 1920s Oklahoma on the trail of serial murders of Native Americans. The film features two of Scorsese’s favorite actors, Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas) and Leonardo DiCaprio (Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street).

The entire film crew should climb the steps.

Martin Scorsese’s previous film, The Irishman, was not released in theaters in France, its producer Netflix wishing to reserve it for its platform.

The jury of the 76th Cannes Film Festival will be chaired by the Swedish director with two Palmes d’Or Ruben Östlund (The Square, Triangle of Sadness).
