Archaeologists have discovered in the Arabian Peninsula, the tips that were made exclusively with presentation order.

Discovery belongs to the team of scientists from the French National center for scientific research, Ohio state University and Institute for the study of human history the max Planck Society. On the territory of today’s Yemen and Oman, they found arrowheads and copies made in the Neolithic period about eight thousand years ago, with the use of fluting.

Fluting is a fairly complicated technique of hollowing the stone tip characteristic of the channel, which is then used to attach the shaft of an arrow or spear. In addition, it is also unique — in addition to the Arabian Peninsula these tips were found only in North America.

This fact alone makes the discovery is extremely valuable, however, scientists all else and has discovered that the ancient inhabitants of Arabia used the fluting not only for purely practical purposes. The North American lugs the channel, as a rule, were short and were located at the base — this is enough to attach the thread of the shaft. However, in the Arabian products channels were often excessive long that had no practical sense, especially given the complexity of the equipment.

The study authors are pretty sure that it was done solely for the sake of demonstration of possession of sophisticated technology, as these skills could significantly improve the social status of the master.

And in order to test their hypothesis, the scientists asked experienced handler stones to do exactly the same tip with a long channel, as did the ancient Arabians. Modern master managed to repeat the technique but only after several hundred attempts and many ruined pieces.
