Russia for the first time in its modern history lays the ship type, ship, shipyard, "Bay" (Kerch, Crimea) on July 16 will be laid from two amphibious assault ships of the project 23900, reported RIA Novosti a source in the shipbuilding industry.

He stressed that the tactical-technical characteristics of the ship 23900 is not yet known. "They planned to announce after the ceremony," the source said.

According to him, the lead ship of the series will be named "Sevastopol".

According to open sources, the displacement of the helicopter 23900 project will amount to 25 thousand tons. The estimated cost of the ship – more than 40 billion rubles. The lead ship of the series will come from the stocks no later than 2027. The new ship will be based Ka-52K "catamaran" Ka-27, Ka-29 and Ka-31.

In addition to combat helicopters, ships will receive severe standard weapons for their own protection. They plan to arm anti-aircraft missile and gun complexes (zrpk) "Shell-M", 100-millimetre gun mount A-190.

The contract for the supply of two helicopter type "Mistral" worth 1.2 billion euros was originally concluded between the French DCNS/STX and Rosoboronexport in 2011. The construction of the ships "Sevastopol" and "Vladivostok" began in 2012 and 2013. However, due to events in Ukraine in 2014 and the introduction of sanctions against Russia the contract was terminated in 2015. The ships were sold to Egypt and entered the combat strength of the national Navy.
