There are many Christmas stories – the most famous being the one from the Bible about the birth of Jesus Christ. The second chapter of Luke’s Gospel describes the whole Christmas story from the journey of Joseph and Mary to the visit of the shepherds. You can read the Christmas Gospel here.

1 Now it came to pass that a command went out from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be valued. 2 And this estimate was the very first, and was done at the time that Cyrenius was governor of Syria. 3 And everyone went to be registered, every one into his own city.

4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary his trusted wife who became pregnant. 6 And when they were there, the time came when she should give birth. 7 And she bare her first son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; for they had no other room in the inn. (Matthew 1:25)

8 And in the same region there were shepherds in the fields by the folds, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, the angel of the LORD came upon them, and the glory of the LORD shone about them; and they were very afraid. 10 And the angel said to them, Fear not! behold, I bring you good news of great joy that shall come to all the people; 11 for today a Savior has been born to you, which is Christ the LORD in the city of David.

12 And have this as a sign: you will find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, and goodwill toward men. Another translation according to a better attested reading: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased.” (Isaiah 57.19) (Luke 19.38) (Ephesians 2.14) (Ephesians 2.17) 15 And then the angels went up from them to heaven drove, the shepherds said to one another, Let us now go to Bethlehem and see the story that happened there, which the LORD has made known to us.

16 And they came in haste and found both Mary and Joseph with the baby lying in the manger. 17 When they saw it, they spread the word that was spoken to them about this child. 18 And all who heard it marveled at what the shepherds had said to them. 19 But Mary kept all these words and moved them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, and glorified and praised God for all that they had heard and seen, as was said unto them. 21 And when eight days had passed since the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. (Genesis 17:12) (Luke 1:31) (Luke 1:59)
