Scientists of the Astrakhan region announced the discovery in the village of Selitrennoe, Kharabali is located in the area, presumably traces of the second capital of the Golden Horde.

As reported in the regional Ministry of culture, the discovery is made during an archaeological expedition prior to construction of the pipeline.

"New evidence may be grounds for renaming Sarai Batu in Saray al-Jadid", – noted in Department.

Experts have been trying to figure out the location of the capitals of the Golden Horde. As explained by the scientific Director of the archaeological expedition of the research center for conservation of cultural heritage Eugene Pigarev, it used to be that it is in the village of Selitrennoe are the cultural layers of the XIII century, scientists assumed that Selitrennoe Gorodishche was the first capital of the Golden Horde, with Sarai or Sarai Batu. Now, there is reason to believe that Selitrennoe Gorodishche is a city Saray al-Jadid (the New Palace).

Experts note the large number of coins of the XIV-XV centuries, which were in circulation during the second capital of the Golden Horde Saray al-Jadid, despite the fact that coins of the XIII century could not be found.

It is noteworthy that the discovery of scientists can affect the representation of the archaeological monuments located in the neighbouring Volgograd region. For example, until now it was believed that if Sarai Batu was near Selitrennoe settlement, the Sarai Berke, or Sarai al-Jadid, a New Barn was located on Zarawska Gorodishche in Volgograd region.

But as the excavations have established the location of the New Barn in the Astrakhan region, receives confirmation of the theory that the place carevskogo settlement was built the second largest of the Golden Horde city of Gulistan. Location of Sarai Batu still have to find out for sure. In some versions it may be located near the village of Krasny Yar.
