Salesforce has proposed the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to develop a program of taxation.

Researchers have proposed the use of artificial intelligence reinforcement learning to construct algorithms of taxation, which most would take into account the current economic situation in the country and was able to respond flexibly to changes in the level of income and productivity of all participants in the system.

The project, called AI the Economist does not use in their work previous experience of humanity and focused on the current situation. During the experiment, which was conducted in the form of a game in a virtual world developed by Salesforce AI has allowed to create 16% more efficient model of progressive taxation than by economist Dr. Emanuel Saez, as well as more efficient (not specified how much) than is used now in the US system. During the self-learning AI Economist came to the conclusion that the optimal tax system will be increased rate for the rich and the poor and less taxes for the middle class.

The Economist proposed AI system tries to equalize income level of all inhabitants of a virtual world, given the degree of productivity of a specific "person", which is based in the desire to work according to the established "state" tax rate, as well as the skills of a particular character. During the simulation created in Salesforce "world" could "live" a few million years, during which continuously varied the level of taxes taking into account the situation in the modeled reality.

Salesforce said that the creation of the game world with virtual people and the teaching of artificial intelligence on the basis of this simulation confirmed the potential of using AI to adjust the tax system. While AI is not sophisticated enough to his proposed solution was available right now to apply in reality — it is necessary to significantly complicate "the game", which will learn the system. But, as the researchers note, some of the decisions formulated artificial intelligence in the future will be possible to implement in the real system of taxation.
