the RF IC opened a criminal case in connection with the dismantling of the monument to Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev in Prague, the press service of the Committee.

the Case was initiated under article “the Desecration of symbols of Russia’s military glory, committed publicly.” The result, called the actions of the city authorities of Prague cynical.

“the Municipal authorities of the city of Prague grossly violated assumed by the Czech Republic of obligations under bilateral agreements with the Russian Federation, demonstrating its disregard for the shared memory and the history of the struggle of the Soviet people against fascism”, – stressed in the UK.

the Monument was opened may 9, 1980, at Square Brigade. It was a reminder of saving the city from destruction by German fascist invaders in his release from the occupation forces in may 1945.

According to the UK, 3 April, the monument has been desecrated. A group of people removed the statue from its pedestal with a crane and ropes, was hit by commemorative inscriptions.

Press Secretary of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Zuzana Stihova explained that the sculpture will be moved to another location, thus the Czech Republic will fulfil the obligations. She believes that the transfer is not a violation of international treaties.

Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu proposed to introduce criminal penalties for government officials of foreign countries for the demolition of buildings in memory of Soviet citizens killed in the defense of the country. He noticed that officials of foreign countries are trying to falsify the historical truth about the decisive contribution of the USSR to the defeat of Nazi invaders during the Second world war.
