Nursing Council President Christine Vogler predicts the devastating effects of the imminent lack of nursing care. Soon only the rich might be cared for. “If you don’t have any relatives, you won’t get any help,” says Vogler.

Christine Vogler, President of the German Nursing Council, warns of a nursing shortage. “Many homes will soon no longer be able to accept anyone because there are no nurses,” said Vogler of “Bild am Sonntag” (BamS). “If we continue as before, only the rich can be cared for in the future.”

Vogler predicted the devastating social effects of the lack of care: “If you don’t have relatives who stand by you, you won’t get any help. It starts with going to the toilet and ends with wound care.” A society that can no longer provide care is “no longer a social society”.

Vogler, who is responsible for 2,600 trainees as managing director of the Berlin educational campus for health professions, therefore demands: “Nursing staff should be exempt from wage tax. They should travel for free on buses and trains. They need more say. You should be allowed more, e.g. B. vaccinate or advise.”

The nursing policy spokeswoman for the FDP parliamentary group, Nicole Westig, also called for improvements in training, such as nationwide training standards and more nursing science and research. “We can no longer afford the lack of nursing educators.” She also called on the responsible Federal Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach (SPD), to act: “For all questions relating to nursing, I expect the Minister of Health to pick up the pace significantly and provide answers .”
