Most Japanese supported the postponement of the Olympics one year

At least 78.7% of residents of Japan consider it appropriate that the decision to postpone the summer Olympic games in Tokyo for a year because of the situation with the new coronavirus. This is evidenced by published results of a poll conducted by Kyodo.

At the same time, about 11% of Japanese believe that Games had to be postponed for two years. The survey was conducted from 26 to 28 March to mobile phones and landlines by random sampling. The number of respondents is not specified.

the agreement on the transfer of Games for next year was reached during telephone conversation of the head of the IOC Thomas Bach, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and head of the organizing Committee of the “Tokyo 2020” Yoshiro Mori on March 24. The parties came to the understanding that in the remaining before the start of the Olympic games, the global sports will not have time to move away from the turmoil associated with the spread of the coronavirus. The competition was to be held from 24 July to 9 August.

the IOC for a very long time did not agree to transfer Games 2020 largely because of the reluctance to bear huge financial losses. The greatest damage is caused by Japan, a country that according to conservative estimates already spend on the training of over 12 billion dollars.
