Abortion access is a hot topic in Texas, like always. People can’t seem to agree on it, and it’s been causing a lot of drama for years. Remember when Wendy Davis wore those pink sneakers and filibustered to stop the abortion restrictions back in 2013? Yeah, that was wild. But things have changed a lot since then. The Supreme Court basically said “bye-bye” to Roe v. Wade in 2022, and Texas wasted no time in banning all abortions. It’s been a mess ever since, with lawmakers trying to figure out what the heck to do.
Three women have even died in Texas because they couldn’t get the medical care they needed. It’s a tragedy, really. But now there’s this bill, Senate Bill 31, that’s trying to bring everyone together on the issue. Blaise Gainey, who covers the statehouse, says both Democrats and Republicans are on board with this bill. They think the current laws are too confusing for doctors, so they want to make some changes to clear things up.
Critics on the right think the law is fine as it is, while those on the left worry that SB 31 doesn’t do enough to protect women in medical emergencies. But hey, at least they’re trying, right? The bill might even make it to the House for a vote soon. Gainey thinks it’ll pass, even though some people want more. Democrats always want more, don’t they? But hey, if it saves lives, it’s worth it, I guess. Let’s see how this plays out.
