The statement of “Roscosmos” on the possibility of creating a reusable rocket-based heavy vehicle “Angara-A5” “it sounds like bragging,” writes Ars Technica.

The American edition reminds that “Angara-A5”, “flew only once in 2014 and is worth more than other comparable missiles on the market.”

“In the end, re-use makes little sense for the media which it seems no one wants to use for the first time,” comments Ars Technica.

In July, former CEO and ex-designer of the Khrunichev Centre Vladimir Nesterov has explained the high cost of “Angara-A5” the fact that “wages, electricity, gas, heat, overhead, transport services need somewhere to write” and also “the expenses in the inept production.” Then the engineer admitted the impossibility of creating a reusable rocket on the basis of “Angara-A5”.

In the financial report of the Khrunichev Centre in 2019, according to information RIA Novosti, published in June, argued that the cost of production of missiles “Angara-A5” is seven billion rubles, which is three times more expensive than production of the rocket “proton-M”.

Moscow Khrunichev Center is considered the most problematic and unprofitable enterprise “Roscosmos”. One of the failed projects of the company is the development of media family “Angara”, which in the heavy version needs to replace the “proton-M”. Rockets is more than a quarter century and took more than three billion dollars. In light and heavy versions, the carrier flew twice (in 2014). Currently the debts of the Center Khrunichev exceed 80 billion rubles, which is comparable to the annual budget of the Corporation.
