To combat the coronavirus began to disinfect waste containers

they said They took measures to protect residents and their employees during a pandemic coronavirus. Part of the waste in the trash, one way or another comes from people infected with COVID-19, including those with asymptomatic disease.

Operators of municipal solid waste has introduced a new enhanced schedule of sanitary handling of containers and bins. According to the companies, the container in which the residents are stockpiling waste, washed and processed directly in the hopper of the refuse under high pressure. Of course, the trash before it is discharged from them and immediately pressed. The container is rinsed with a disinfectant solution with an average of 50 seconds, but the liquid is not released into the environment, accumulating in a special tank. Workers employed in this process are briefed and fully provided with personal protective equipment. Reinforced sanitary mode will be kept until the end of April.

– All our staff are responsible to comply with the rules of prevention: drivers, porters, workers sorting companies allow for a change only in protective overalls, gloves, masks or respirators, they are provided disinfectants and detergents, – says Deputy General Director of one of the operators Elena Vishnyakova. – At the beginning and the end of the day each of the employees is a mandatory initial diagnostics and temperature control. All trucks thoroughly washed every day not only outside but also the driver’s cab, and a receiving chamber where the loaded waste. Processed tanks and bunkers – wash them on schedule and also disinfected.

According to the company, in Moscow there was a redistribution of the waste stream. During the regime of isolation compared to the beginning of March, their number in the residential sector increased by approximately 15 percent. But in the commercial sphere there is a reduction due to the transition of many companies for freelance work and closure of shops and establishments.

Now waste the majority of Muscovites formed at home and are accumulated on a container platform. Additional load was waste from the delivery of products and ready meals. And another noticeable increase in the number of discarded items – many during the isolation decided to put the house in order.

From 1 January 2020, Moscow has moved to the separate collection of waste: plastic, glass, paper and metal containers there is a separate blue. The introduction of the regime of self-isolation has not stopped this work: experts believe that one should not give up on recycling and unloading of the polygons. However, trips to points of reception of recyclable materials is to be postponed.

– There are special collection points the waste is about hypermarkets Ikea or in the center of the diain ARTPLAY, where the Muscovites are specially imported already sorted waste, – says the Manager of a group of companies specializing in recycling, Konstantin Rzayev. – Of course, it is a pity to throw them away just like that, but most households already have containers for selective collection. If not, then it is better to send them in a generic container, rather than go with a bag in another area of Moscow. Staff screening of the shops do not work with bare hands and rubberized gloves. The possibility that dangerous viruses can get on this glove, I guess, theoretically there is, but it is extremely low. Even if this happens, the employee will not touch a glove to the face – this can not be done in any case, even without the pandemic.

Each of the sorted Bank “expects” one to three days until the material has accumulated in sufficient quantity, says Konstantin Rzayev. Recyclables are then compressed and sent for recycling. The duration of this cycle, from four to ten days from the time of emission of debris before entering it to the processors. Even if the virus is able to live for a while on the surface of the waste upon delivery of the material at the factory, he is no longer a danger.

– Even if we assume negligible the probability that a virus will survive to the stage of processing, the work in the factory, in any case, mechanized, and people use protection, – said Konstantin Rzayev. – We believe that sorting should continue, especially as the removal is more complicated and the amount of waste in the residential sector grew, and separate collection is the ability for the operator to receive selected waste, thereby speeding up the processes of sorting, and then sell us the waste and to reduce the burden on landfills.

Everyone who is quarantined, the trash needs to be Packed in double garbage bags durable, close tightly and put them outside the apartment. Put them in containers you can ask friends, acquaintances or volunteers.

For those who observe the regime of isolation to minimize the risks, it is recommended to collect in a separate package protective equipment – disposable mask, used gloves and any other materials in contact with mucous membranes. The package should be tightly tie and leave on the balcony or in the back room for three days, and then send in the container for mixed waste.
