The former state bishop Margot Käßmann condemns the actions of the climate protest movement “Last Generation”. Violence against things and self-harm are not acceptable for them.

In an interview with the magazine “Cicero”, the theologian said: “For me, the ‘last generation’ expresses a terribly sad despondency on the part of young people who should be conquering life.” The actions are dangerous and highly problematic because the protest could also turn into violence against people, “for example, into violence against police officers and law enforcement officers”.

Most recently, the synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany had invited representatives of the “last generation”. Synod President Anna-Nicole Heinrich had declared that road blockades were “legitimate nonviolent civil disobedience”.
