a European officials are preparing to open borders for citizens of those countries where the epidemiological situation is not worse than in Europe. Thus, access to the European Union will remain closed for citizens of the USA, Russia, Brazil and countries where the pandemic has not yet managed to stifle.

According to the publication France 24, with the opening of borders for citizens of a particular state, EU officials are guided by two criteria: how well in this country cope with the coronavirus and introduced whether that state restrictions on the entry of EU citizens. The European Commission believes that the restrictions for entry from those countries where the situation with coronavirus worse than in the EU. Over the last two weeks in average in Europe, the coronavirus has infected 16 people for every 100 thousand population, while in some countries this figure is much higher.

The EU authorities are preparing to open their borders to foreigners from 1 July. European diplomats noted that the publication of the official criteria and list of countries is expected on 29 or 30 June. However already now experts say that citizens of countries such as USA, Brazil and Russia are unlikely to have access to the “Schengen area”, which includes all EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

On 26 June, the ambassadors of the countries-members of EU decided to lift restrictions on moving with Australia, Canada, Republic of Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Thailand, Uruguay, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Montenegro, Serbia and Georgia. The preliminary list does not include the US, Russia, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and China.

It is expected that 1 July will also start the free movement of, and between, countries of the “Schengen area” where there had been limitations.
