Carry The Load went ahead and pulled the plug on its Dallas Memorial March due to some gnarly weather, calling it quits early around 8:30 p.m. The event was set to go down over Memorial Day weekend, but the nonprofit organization decided to cancel the whole shebang because of safety concerns caused by the severe conditions. The announcement was made on Sunday afternoon through their official Facebook page, leaving participants in a bit of a lurch.

According to the organization, the Dallas Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service gave them the heads up about some seriously rough thunderstorms that were expected to hit Dallas that night. Despite the setback, Carry The Load expressed gratitude to everyone who showed up to support the cause both in Dallas and across the nation. The annual Dallas Memorial March, which has been going strong since 2011, kicked off at 3:30 p.m. at Reverchon Park in Dallas but unfortunately had to wrap up five hours earlier than planned.

The event usually involves a 20-hour march along the Katy Trail, along with some live tunes, food trucks, and other activities aimed at paying tribute to military service members, veterans, first responders, and their families. The Dallas Memorial March is the grand finale of Carry The Load’s Memorial May campaign, which includes various events held throughout the country to honor fallen heroes.
