The former captain of the German national basketball team, Ademola Okulaja, has died at the age of 46. This was reported by the basketball magazine “BIG”. The cause of death is not yet known.

Sports fans and journalists mourn the loss of Okulaja on social networks, who played a total of 172 international matches for Germany between 1995 and 2007. One of his greatest achievements is winning the bronze medal at the 2002 World Championships.

He appeared as an expert and co-commentator on live TV broadcasts and had his own column on the station’s homepage. In 2008, a tumor was diagnosed after a vertebral fracture. In 2009, Okulaja reported that he had beaten cancer. A year later he ended his active career.

Former basketball superstar Vince Carter is also among the mourners online. Carter attended the University of North Carolina for three years and was Okulaja’s teammate during that time. “This is so painful we will miss you boy,” Carter tweeted, captioning the tweet with two pictures. One from college, another from years past.
