The FDP politician Alexander Graf Lambsdorff is to become the new ambassador in Moscow. According to a media report, the assumption of office is planned for the summer. There will probably be a change at the top of the German embassy in Moscow. As the “Spiegel” reports, FDP foreign politician Alexander Graf Lambsdorff is to take over the office from Géza Andreas von Geyr in the summer. The news magazine refers to sources from the traffic light coalition circles.

There has long been speculation as to whether Lambsdorff could become ambassador to the United States. Now it will probably be the complicated post in Russia. The FDP politician was trained as a diplomat in 1995 and was a member of the planning staff of the Federal Foreign Office in 1997/1998. From 2000 to 2003 he also worked as an employee at the German Embassy in Washington. Lambsdorff was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2017, the last three years as Vice President. He has been a member of the Bundestag since 2017 and is deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group.
