Six years after the sudden death of the FDP politician Guido Westerwelle, his widower appears with a new man at his side.

Six years ago, Guido Westerwelle lost the fight against cancer at the age of only 54. At his side during the serious illness, his husband Michael Mronz, with whom Westerwelle had been in a relationship since 2004, had been married since 2010.

Now Mronz seems to have a partner at his side again. As reported by “Bild”, Mronz and the lawyer Markus Felten are a couple. The two have already attended various events together, including the belated celebration of the 85th birthday of “Focus” founder Helmut Markwort in Munich. Mronz, who is an entrepreneur, confirmed to the newspaper: “That’s right. I wasn’t there alone. This will often be the case in the future as well.”

Westerwelle has been one of the most influential figures in German politics since the 1980s. After many years in the opposition, he was Federal Foreign Minister between 2009 and 2013. In the first two years of the black-yellow coalition, until his resignation as head of the FDP, he was also vice chancellor.

Westerwelle fought blood cancer for two years, underwent a stem cell transplant and was even on the mend for a short time. He wrote a book about his leukemia and even slowly returned to the public. He then passed away on March 18, 2016 at the age of just 54.
