Russian courts conducted more than 1500 hearings in the mode of video per day

this year marks an anniversary: exactly twenty years ago, 19 April 2000, held the first court hearing in the remote-presence of participants of process. In the meetings, held in the Supreme court was attended by inmates from the detention center. Continuous session of the Supreme court of Russia – N3 detention center of Moscow lasted about three hours. Court considered three criminal cases.

“At that time, the system of video conferencing demonstrated the high quality and stable performance. Any disruption of communication, the visible artifacts in the image and sound quality were not observed, – says Sergey Krjukov. – Since that time in the Russian Federation began the formation of video-conferencing at the Federal level for trials. Currently, the Supreme court of the Russian Federation can work with any of the ships, and almost two and a half thousand geographically spaced objects. In 2018 the system of video-conferencing to connect the steel sections of the world judges all over the country for more than seven and a half thousand plots.”

the Court session on the criminal cases mainly are with remote participation of convicted persons or persons detained in the institutions of Federal service of execution of punishments of Russia. As noted by the representative of the Supreme court of Russia, more than 90 of the FSIN is connected to the system of video-conferencing in the judicial system of the Russian Federation for carrying out both regional, and Federal court proceedings.

“as a result, at present, to conduct remote court sessions in the Russian Federation and abroad, there are already more than eight thousand rooms and halls of the hearing, complexes equipped with video-conferencing,” says Sergey Kryukov.

He stressed that further improvement of video-conferencing will allow not only to prevent the spread of the disease and violations of procedural rights in the context of a pandemic, but also will significantly speed up the time cases, will reduce the time required and costs involved in the process, mostly travel expenses.
