The Tunguska meteorite was not, write Russian researchers in an article published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. According to experts, the disaster provoked an iron asteroid, which is cutting through the Earth’s atmosphere, was dangerously close to the planet’s surface.

Developing the theory, the researchers came to the conclusion that the asteroid consisted precisely of iron as of stone and ice space-based objects inevitably destroyed in the atmosphere.

Passing at a distance of 10-15 kilometers from the Earth at a speed of nearly 20 km/s, the asteroid created a shock wave, from the effects of which fell trees on an area of more than fifteen thousand square kilometers. At the same time, experts remind, on the planet’s surface does not remain traces of the cosmic body, since it is stitched to the atmosphere, continued on his way.

In the scientific community, as reported by “the Rambler”, still there is no consensus about the origin of the Tunguska phenomenon that occurred in 1908 in Siberia. The most supported version is considered to be a theory about the meteorite, which exploded upon entering the atmosphere.
