The tendency to hair loss is particularly high in men. Researchers have investigated what can cause hair loss and how to reduce the risk.

In Beijing, scientists from Tsinghua University have researched hair loss in men in more detail. About 1,000 Chinese men took part in a survey on their eating and drinking habits and the condition of their hair.

During the evaluation, the researchers focused on the connections between hair structures and the consumption of sugary drinks.

The results of the study show that almost a third of all men who consumed one or more sugary drinks per day were affected by hair loss. This includes soft drinks, energy drinks or morning coffee with sugar.

Men who avoided these drinks were 42 percent less likely to lose hair.

Sugar affects the skin. The skin cells are put into a state similar to inflammation by the sugar. This can be seen on the face, among other things, by visible pimples or enlarged pores.

But not only the skin on the face shows what sugar does in the body, but also the scalp. The consequences are dull, thin or brittle hair – and this in turn promotes hair loss.

Of course, the participants in the study did not only eat sugary drinks. Therefore, the liquids alone cannot be held responsible for the hair loss. External influences on the body, such as an unhealthy diet or stress, can also cause hair to fall out.

In contrast to genetic or disease-related causes, however, these influences can be brought under control to a large extent.

Having a sugary drink every now and then is okay. However, you should make sure that the consumption does not become too regular. If you also avoid industrial sugar in your diet, the risk of hyperglycemia in the body and also sugar-related hair loss decreases.

The secret here is to focus on a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
