There are only six countries in the world that have technologies for mass production of coronavirus vaccines, Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said at the II Forum “New Knowledge”. Russia is one of them.

Noting the importance of creating a vaccine against coronavirus, Dmitriev stressed: “Only six countries in the world have mass-scale vaccine technologies, such as (production – approx.) “Sputnik”. We are very pleased that we were able to choose the Sputnik vaccine as an investment object, ” Kirill Dmitriev said, noting that even 8-9 countries own nuclear technologies.

According to Kirill Dmitriev, when the pandemic began, the RDIF quickly assessed the scale of the threat and almost completely switched to fighting COVID-19. It was decided to focus on three areas: diagnostics (mass testing opportunities), drug development and the creation of a vaccine.

Earlier, Dmitriev said that the RDIF invested 22 billion rubles in development in all these areas.
