The number of hazardous weather events in the summer in five to ten times more than in winter, due to the processes of "explosive convection" in the atmosphere and the clash of Northern and southern air masses, told RIA Novosti the scientific Director of the hydrometeorological center Roman Vilfand.

"Number of dangerous events in the summer in five to ten times more than in winter. This is due to the processes of so-called explosive convection, when there is a rapid rise of air masses, saturated with moisture. Moisture is a source of hazards. So really, in many regions of European Russia, West Siberia and Urals, Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Far East is projected a series of dangerous phenomena: thunderstorms, heavy downpours, lightning, strong gusts of wind", – said Vilfand.

He added that summer is also the collision of Northern and southern air masses.
