Predicted the impoverishment of the middle class in Russia

as a result of the economic crisis associated with the pandemic coronavirus, the middle class may slip into poverty. Such a scenario is predicted by the rector of the Higher school of Economics Yaroslav Kuzminov in an interview with owned by Grigory Berezkin RBC.

He also suggested that revenues will fall from all segments of society, however, “impoverished rich” will still be rich. “For the middle class, now the main host attacked, there are serious risks of slipping into poverty,” said Kuzminov.

He stressed that this trend is primarily concerned with the economy of services, including the intellectual, and the experience economy, which gave space for the development of new creative projects.

According to the HSE’s baseline forecast, in 2020 the unemployment rate in Russia will amount to 8 percent. Moreover, the greatest losses will occur in the unincorporated sector of the economy. As stated Kuzminov, the corporate sector will lose in 2020 700 thousand workers against 1.5 million people in unincorporated, but then the recovery is faster from non-corporate sector.

In a pessimistic variant of the forecast the unemployment rate this year will be 9.5 percent. The corporate sector will lose in 2020, 1.2 million jobs to 2.2 million in unincorporated.

Previously, the rating Agency ACRES he predicted the fall of incomes of Russians grew by 9.9 percent by the end of 2020 in the case of strengthening the restrictive measures in connection with the spread of the coronavirus.
