A mother throws her disabled son into a crocodile-infested river – apparently under pressure from his father. The police are investigating after the dead child was found the following day.

Shocking act in Uttara Kannada, India: As the Times of India reports, a mother is said to have thrown her six-year-old speech-impaired son into a river known for its crocodile population after an argument with her husband. The parents, who also have a two-year-old son, had often argued about the older child’s condition. The husband is said to have repeatedly questioned his wife’s decision to keep the disabled child.

In desperation, the woman is said to have thrown the boy into a canal that flows into the crocodile-prone river, according to the Times of India. The search for the child was unsuccessful and the boy’s body was found the next morning with serious injuries and bite wounds. The police suspect that the child fell victim to a crocodile.

“We have registered a case under Sections 109 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code at Dandeli Rural Police Station and arrested both the husband and wife in connection with the incident,” the Times of India quoted a police official as saying. The case will now be further investigated to determine the exact cause of death.
