Most insured persons in the statutory health insurance companies have to pay significantly more from January. The additional contribution increases and at the same time the contribution assessment limit is raised – however, your health insurance company no longer has to inform you personally. That’s why we do this.

The additional contributions in the statutory health insurance will increase on January 1, 2023 by an average of 0.3 percentage points to 1.6 percent. At the same time, the contribution assessment limit will be raised to EUR 59,850. This means that employees with statutory insurance pay an average of 233 euros more in health insurance contributions per year.

So much for the average. What does it look like in concrete terms?

The first health insurance company to finally set its additional contribution is AOK Bayern. It increases its additional contribution by 0.28 percentage points to 1.58 percent. It was the first of the eleven AOK local health insurance funds. All AOK funds together have 27 million insured persons.

DAK-Gesundheit will increase the additional contribution to 1.7 percent in 2023. In 2022, the additional contribution was 1.5 percent.

The Techniker Krankenkasse has already announced that it will leave its contribution at 1.2 percent. The Board of Directors confirmed this decision at its meeting on December 16th.

The AOK Baden-Württemberg has decided to raise the additional contribution by 0.3 percentage points. This was decided by the Board of Directors at its meeting on December 16th. This increases the additional contribution from 1.3 percent to 1.6 percent.

Barmer also does not want to increase their additional contribution. It should remain at 1.5 percent. According to “Bild”, the final decision will be made on Wednesday, December 21st.

With the announcements by Barmer and Techniker, the two largest health insurance companies in Germany, to keep contributions stable, most health insurance customers will be able to avoid an increase this year. At the same time, the benefits of many health insurers will be improved. In future, the technicians will pay 40 euros per year for professional teeth cleaning and double their subsidy for artificial insemination.

Many other customers might not even notice that they got a raise. Insurance companies no longer have to personally send all their customers a letter in January to inform them of the respective premium increase. Specifically, the obligation of health insurance companies to send a separate information letter in the event of a premium increase will be suspended until June 30, 2023. Every health insurance patient has to inform himself about his new contribution.

From January, the higher cash contribution will be deducted from the gross salary without being informed. The insured are responsible themselves.

What customers should do: Check the current additional contribution of your health insurance company in January, for example in the health insurance comparison from FOCUS online (ad): If your health insurance company has increased its additional contribution to more than 1.6 percent, it is definitely worth alternative funds to compare.

“Rooobäääärt” is also the motto in 2023: On the occasion of the new season “Die Geissens – Eine terribly glamorous family” the whole family chats in an interview out of the box. Does a multimillionaire even feel inflation? And how do TV stars celebrate Christmas? Questions upon questions … And the Geissens answer (almost) all of them.

A few days ago, the second part of the Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan” was released – and hit like a bomb again. Prince Harry (38) and Duchess Meghan (41) had again made serious allegations against the royal family.
