The Ministry of health of Russia approved the procedure of dispensary observation of older patients with cancer for the first time provides for the supervision of patients from diagnosis and throughout life, the press service of the Ministry.

"for the First time in Russia adopted a document that reglamentary monitoring of patients with cancer from diagnosis and throughout life… According to the introduced procedure, the patient should be put on dispensary registration at the doctor-oncologist at the place of residence within three working days from diagnosis. Further, depending on the kind of cancer the patient is undergoing tests established professional societies of oncologists", – stated in the message.

In the first year after diagnosis of the patient will be invited for an examination every three months during the second year every six months and for the next years of his life – once a year, explained in a press-service.

Exceptions are for patients with basal cell carcinoma of the skin, which are removed from the dispensary observation after five years from diagnosis, because after this time are considered completely cured, said the press service.

Disabled categories of citizens in need of follow-up oncologist will be able to obtain the necessary consultations at home.

"In our country on the account at the oncologist consists of nearly 4 million people! Annually the malignancy is diagnosed in more than 600 thousand. All these people need not only proper and timely treatment, but also monitoring after completion of treatment. Regulated clinical supervision will allow doctors to detect the recurrence of the disease.
